SL for Nowt

Living a digital life with empty pockets

Pretty it up

EDIT: The Dressing Room items featured in this post have now GONE. See this post for some items from the new collection.

Let’s get glamorous, girls. Today I’m going to blog about some cheap stuff, and about some stuff that’s a teeny bit over the blog’s L$50 remit, but which is worth getting. Today Mar visited four places: The Dressing Room, the new Dressing Room Blue, the Beauty Avatar/Glam Affair Discount section, and FabFree. What did she get? A ton of lovely stuff, from dresses and pantsuits, to free and cheap skins from big-name designers. (And boys, this post isn’t just for girls. Although I’ve only blogged girly stuff, hop behind the cut anyway to get the SLurl for the Glam Affair Discount section, because they have a LOT of male cheapies there, including skins, shapes, and clothing.)

For those who want to know when The Dressing Room changes its designer stock, join the Subscribe-o-matic while you’re there.

Hop behind the cut!

First stop is the Glam Affair store (which used to be Beauty Avatar Couture). You’ll land at the landing point, and finding the Discount section can be tricky. Here are a couple of screenshots:

Once you’re up there at the back of the store:

Ladieswear is on your left and menswear on your right. You’ll need to hover your mouse over the items to find out the prices, and be eagle-eyed. Last time I was there, I found one male outfit that was (accidentally, I presume) marked at L$500. So just check those prices before you buy. Average prices in the store are L$10 to L$20, though. They have everything, from male and female shapes (good ones, at that!) to male and female skins, and clothing.

Mar’s skin in this first look is an old gift from Belleza and is no longer available (more on new skins in a bit, though). She’s wearing the skirt and stockings from the Elsinore Dress (L$10) and the Jane top (L$10 – more colours available). She’s teamed those with HoC’s fabulous colour-change MIB Stilettos (L$50) and the Swedish Blonde tone of the Adena hair by Amacci (fatpack available free in the store’s hair section). Jewellery and manicure are (to the best of my knowledge) no longer available, but listed for completion.

The Dressing Room Blue is a new offshoot of the main Dressing Room, where some of SL’s top designers offer limited-time items for much less than they would retail in their stores. Here, Mar is modelling the Maya dress by Baiastice, which is currently L$70. You get two skirt options as shown here (the larger one comes with and without an AO). Shoes are an old gift from R2 called Mahealani (still available in-store [although this colour combination is not an option] for L$249).  The skin is a fantastic new find at the FabFree store: a full free fatpack of Exodi’s new Lily V2 skins in the ‘Girlie’ makeup. I’ll give you a closeup of the skin at the end of this post.

From the main Dressing Room, Mar picked up this lovely top and jeans set from R.icielli for L$70. She pulled out her shudderingly-expensive (but flippin’ gorgeous!) Rhapsody shoes from Kalnins (I got them for about L$400 or thereabouts when they were on a limited quantity offer after being released. They’re now L$800 – eek!) to go with them, because those shoes have masses of colour options!

At the Dressing Room Blue location, Mar found this lovely bodysuit from Maitreya, for L$50. The perfect shoes were, again, the colour-change L$50 MIB Stilettos from House of Curios.

Back with the Beauty Avatar/Glam Affair Discount section, here’s the elegant Dinant Dress (lots more colours available) for just L$10. And the skin is another limited-time offer, from the main Dressing Room location: Tuli’s beautiful Gina 01 skin, for L$65 (Mar says you have to grab this, because it’s gorgeous! Close-up to follow at the end of the post). Shoes are Lotus from Adam n Eve, in Chartreuse (this colour no longer available; but you can find other colours at the store for L$290) and were the only shoes I had that colour-matched perfectly!

Short-n-flirty is this L$10 Toronto Dress from Glam Affair’s Discount room (more colours available). We’re back to the FabFree Exodi free skin again, and Mar is also wearing the City Wedges in ice cream, L$70 from Kookie at the Dressing Room Blue location.

This fun and fabulous Summer BigBag with hold pose is just L$50 at the Dressing Room and it’s from YS&YS. Mar has paired it with the simple-but-glam Los Angeles outfit, L$20 from the Beauty Avatar/Glam Affair Discount Room, and the L$100 colour-change Noir Boots from House of Curios. And back to that Tuli skin again!

Now for close-ups of those skins! First up, find L$65 from somewhere, leg it to the Dressing Room, and grab this stunning Gina 01 skin from Tuli before the Dressing Room changes out its stock for new items! Mar is wearing the Los Angeles outfit from the previous picture, and her earrings are the Sissy ones from Gems & Kisses (store currently relocating, so I can’t grab a current price for you; I got these at the Jewellery Fair 2009).

Then, head to the FabFree store, turn left and walk past the first row of floor vendors, and grab this lovely free Lily V2 fatpack from Exodi. You’ll get four skintones, with light and dark brow options and cleavage/non-cleavage options in each. Mar’s top is from an old Baiastice gift, and her earrings are the free Vintage Earrings that Bliensen + MaiTai gave away at Jewellery Fair 2009 (I can’t find them in their store now, though, so you’re out of luck; sorry! Lots of other pretties there, though, if you fancy a mini-splurge on some lovely jewellery).

All poses are from the sale room at Behavior Body.

Phew! I’m all blogged-out after that lot! All that remains is to give you those all-important SLurls!

    • It’s a WordPress blog, Ruben. Not self-hosted. And sorry, I only add links to blogs that help Second Life newbies, as per the FAQ on the site.
