Living a digital life with empty pockets

Sick of those flesh-toned pants bottoms?

Take a look at this pic:

Does the way your fleshtone extends to cover the inside of your pants always bug you like it does me? It’s caused by the avatar mesh (something we can’t change). The top row of polygons that form your ankles are the ones that extend out to form the base of pants on the system layer. When you wear socks, you’ll notice that the flesh-toned bit at the bottom of your pants takes on the colour (and texture, if they’re textured) of your socks.

But what to do if you want to go barefoot, or don’t want to wear socks? Well, there is a solution (it’s also a solution to the same problem that happens with long sleeves) and best of all, it’s free!

Head over to Robin (Sojourner) Wood’s lovely little store in Livingtree, and get the free Tintable Barefoot Socks and Gloves set. As Robin explains in her accompanying notecard:

These socks are designed to cover the “bare flesh tone” at the bottom of full-length pants when you’re barefoot; or at least not wearing any other socks.

Since the problem is caused by the first set of ankle polys expanding to form the bell of the pants, these socks are transparent from that first set of polys down, and opaque from there on up. Which neatly solves that problem!

They are modifiable, so you can make them any color that you like, and copyable so that you can save a pair that matches each of your pants, or save them into Outfit folders, or whatever else you might need a copy for.

Here’s Mar, wearing the socks. Problem solved!

  1. Once again, you have swooped in to save the day! I have a few shirts that do this and had absolutely no idea there was anything that could be done about it.

Thanks for sharing this info and I’m so glad I found your awesome blog.

    Best wishes! :)

  2. Yay! Glad to help, Bryn. It’s really such a simple idea (when you know what causes the problem, which I didn’t until I read Robin’s notecard!), but so awesome with it.

  3. Omggggggg… this was a sanity-saving tip for me! Bottoms of pants was driving me bananas – bout to give up on the world of wearing them (LOL). These little socks did the trick – a perfect solution to a very annoying problem. Thanks!

  4. It’s so annoying, isn’t it, Dzin? I’m so glad that Robin solved the problem so neatly, and generously, too :)

  5. I can’t find them anywhere. Is there someplace else I can get them at?
    Thank you.

    • Never mind. Bad connection, lag, and a few other things stopped me finding it. *blushes*
