Silent Sparrow freebies for newbies!

As well as the three gorgeous free outfits she has at The Gnubie Store, Hyasynth Tiramisu of Silent Sparrow has put out in her own store a freebie for new avatars less than 30 days old. This was an older group gift, and I can tell you that it’s stunning. I can also tell you to RUN over there and grab it! Silent Sparrow outfits are some of the most beautiful hand-drawn clothing in Second Life, and you want this!

New hair, new look

Mar’s just been over to Maitreya to grab their freebie fatpack of ‘Aimee’ hair. Alas, the slinky stiletto shoes that Maitreya had out for the longest time are now gone, but in their place is this great hair pack. Aimee comes in 21 colours, and also contains a useful notecard with Windlight Environment Editor settings for lighting so you can always look your best *g*

I’ve paired the hair with Desert Moon Clothiers (DMC) smoked low-rise jeans for women (tucked version) (free), PushButton Industries’ ‘The Bricolage’ shirt (1L$), Katat0nik’s ‘Axis Mundi’ sculpted boots (1L$), and Yak & Yeti’s Tibetan Dzi stone necklace (free). Details and SLurls below.

Maitreya - Aimee hair (free)

DMC - Smoked low-rise jeans (free)

Katat0nik - Axis Mundi sculpted boots (1L$)

PushButton Industries - The Bricolage shirt (1L$) [No longer available at this price]

Yak & Yeti - Tibetan Dzi stone necklace (free)

Hop behind the cut for close-ups of the hair, plus more of the freebies available at The Block, where the DMC jeans come from!

The fast-track guide to non-newbieness for boys (3 of 3)

Hi, guys! Last but not least in this series for you is a tutorial in putting together a full AO, or animation overrider. An AO will get rid of that funny, waddling ‘duck walk’ that is the newbie default, and it can also give you many more options for standing, sitting, flying and other poses in-world.

There are many great AOs to be bought in Second Life, and some of them are very pricey. There are a couple of good new freebies around, too, which I’ll mention at the end of this post. But whether you stick with a pre-made freebie or want to put together your own AO with individual animations you’ve found and bought, it’s still a very useful thing to know how to do.

Hop behind the cut for your tutorial.

ETA1: My apologies, guys. Once again, WordPress has screwed up the formatting on a post for me. I’m doing my best to fix it, but it looks a bit squished up at the moment. I hope it’s still readable, for all that :(

ETA2: OK, it’s fixed to the best of my ability. I’m afraid the sidebar is still screwed when you view the post, but the post itself should be more legible.

The fast-track guide to non-newbieness for boys (2 of 3)

Lads, I’m sorry it’s taken me so long. For a while I thought I might have to wind this blog down, but I have managed to put together this second part of the non-newbieness for boys guide.

Hop behind the cut.

The fast-track guide to non-newbieness for boys (1 of 3)

OK, it took a long time to put together, but here - at last! - is the boy’s version of my fast-track guide to non-newbieness.

In this first post, as with the girls’ series, we’re going on a whistlestop tour of the Second Life Grid, only this time it’s purely for the lads.

So, boys. You’ve finished wandering around Orientation Island. You have learned how to walk, fly, and squash medium-sized rodents under the wheels of a car or motorbike. And now you’ve found out how to get into Second Life proper; away from all that newbie learning stuff and into where all the other people are.

All the other beautiful people, that is. How come those guys have a slow, meandering walk when you’re stuttering forward like a toddler that’s only just found its feet? Where did the bloke in front of you get that awesome haircut? Hey, I want a pair of jeans like that, not these horrible newbie things. And argh! Get these flipflops off my feet!

Guys? Breathe. Go make a coffee or grab a beer, then hop behind the cut. In this post we’re going to grab some of the basic stuff you need in order to stop looking so newbish.

Evocative Free Designs

Lapointe and Bastchild have a store in their Evocative sim, entitled Evocative Free Designs, and it’s filled with nothing but freebies. Good quality freebies, at that. Guys, you’ll find stuff here for you, as well as the girls. There’s everything from clothing to jewellery, and even two free skins (one male, one female) donated by Eloh Eliot. I couldn’t even begin to screencap everything in the store, so hop behind the cut for just a selection.

The bloke post

OK, boys. We’ve dealt with the more… sensitive areas of your anatomy. Now do you think we could have a word about shapes? Skins? Clothing? Footwear? Hair? And… all that other stuff some of you have such trouble finding.

Listen, you don’t have to pay a fortune to look reasonably decent. Yes, you’ll get a bloody good shape at KMADD - for about 1000L$. And yes, you’ll get probably the best male skin in-world (Dante) at Naughty - for about 1500L$. But when you’re new and not sure you want to invest that much? You probably have a bit of money gleaned from money trees and camping, but all the free stuff you’re finding is probably a bit, well… crap.

Not if you know where to look, and lads, I have been looking for ya. Behind the cut is a very small selection of shapes, skins, hair, clothing, shoes and other bits (together with landmarks, of course). They might not be perfectly to your taste, but for now - until you decide you’re gonna break open that wallet and set the moths free - they’ll stop you from looking like this:

Onward!

It’s the little things…

Guys, let’s talk cock.

Yes, I’m shameless, but so are you. What’s the point of being a man in a world full of women (or other men, depending on your preference) if you look down at your naked, digital self and see no naked, digital bits dangling there?

Got one of those freebie knobs in a massive box o’ stuff yet? Tried it on? Almost poked someone’s eye out with that enormous orange whanger?

Mmhm. Not too great, is it? I’ve lost count of the number of n00b guys I’ve seen wandering around with the Standard Enormous Orange Newbie Cock poking outta their pants. It ain’t nice, boys. It really ain’t nice. Oh, it’s hilarious, I grant you. Never fails to make me point at the screen and giggle like an idiot with my girlfriends in IM, but oh boy you do look silly…

So, you’re new, you’re trying to live on the cheap in this digital world, but you’re really missing your digital bits. And while Xcite! is great if you want the bells and whistles (and all the associated icky stuff and clicky stuff that it lets you - and others! - do) you don’t really want a cock that talks to you and your partner of choice. And you certainly don’t want to be paying 700L$ or so for that talking knob.

So where do you go?

OK, I think I have the solution. I’ve spoken to a couple of my in-world guy friends, and they’ve told me to send you lot to Midnight Lotus. Just to the left of you, when the world has rezzed, you’ll see a small box on the floor. Floating above it is the tempting text: “Touch me for a free cock”. Now there’s an offer you don’t hear every day, so getcher free knob, go somewhere private, and try it on.

I know, I know. It’s got a tattoo on it, and that tattoo is a lovely shade of purple. But guys? That just shows how big ‘n’ tough ‘n’ manly you are, to get a tat there! It’s also a great ad for Midnight Lotus, who - let’s face it - have just given you what is actually a very well-made, and more importantly, realistic prim penis (in three skintones, no less).

OK, I threw Mar into her male shape and skin again and attached her new prim bits, just so I could take a screenshot. Nonono, you won’t get the whole thing, because Photobucket would remove it before you could say, “Hey, I want one of those!” But I took a real close-up of the tat, so you could see it. It’s at the very top of the cock, and isn’t actually all that bad:

Unfortunately, as the notecard says, technical support is not available for your free cock. *tries to keep a straight face*

Oh, I almost forgot the most important thing. Yeah, it’s not a bad size, too ;-)

And while we’re here, shall we have a vote for the Worst Newbie Cock in SL? Anyone seen a really godawful one?

More hair freebies for the guys

Husky GFX! have placed a pack of free hair inside the entrance of their mainstore at Tarnotopia. The small box is on top of another box, and the style is called ‘dirty biker hair’. It comes in two colours: black and light. Personally, I prefer light, but since both are freebies one can’t complain! The notecard in the box states the hair is not made by Husky, but the store is simply offering it because so many people have asked about it. Just behind that box, closer to the entrance, you’ll see a free unisex tattoo called Fenrirwolf.

More bloke-bits (not those kinds of bloke bits! Sheesh!) and a free girl’s hair, too, behind the cut…

Great male hair for just 1L? It’s the Truth!

Guys, get over to Truth’s store in Sweet Sorrow. They currently have a fatpack of 72 colours in this great, sexy style called Danny, for just 1L$.

Ladies, there’s something for you, too. Two more dollarbies: Deanne and Danny 2, also both in fatpacks. And, as before, the guy’s styles usually work just as well on the girls!

Also in the sim, if you hunt around a bit, Fuse has a sweet little flower ring freebie on their new items display, just inside the door, and Sand Shack Surf Co. have three dollarbies set out on the steps: a bag containing a halter top, a pair of denim bermuda shorts, and a tintable polo, and two little wrapped presents, containing a graphic tee and a pair of messy artist shorts. There’s also a ‘coming soon’ ad in front of one of the empty stores, for Kookla, and beside it is a dollarbie box containing several nice tops.

Screenshots behind the cut.
